The momentous import of resources from countries like China, India, and Japan continues to propel the growth of Asia’s maritime logistics. A part of the increase in package delivery is accredited to changes in people’s shopping habits and the rise of the eCommerce sector. Patirop Phoophat, a veteran of the maritime survey industry, is fully aware of the problems during transit through delivery and started PKSP Surveyors and Adjustors to perform international standard marine surveys.

In the Asian circuit, the company plays a big role in ensuring reliable and professional service during the inspection of goods under various conditions to discover the basis of damage caused to goods. In addition to working with logistics and freight carrier companies, it provides personal effect surveys and claim adjustment to individual clients. PKSP helps claimants and underwriters inspect wrecked goods, fill in the right forms, and provide reports that present/reflect the fact, detail and information of the subjected goods for all stakeholders and the insurers. The data collected serves various commercial and government purposes, especially when passing claim reports for damaged goods.

“Through our survey, we evaluate the root cause of damage and extent of loss, and cooperate with the consignee to provide claim relevant documents that an underwriter will require for their decision of claim disbursal/further handling,” says Patirop Phoophat, Founder and CEO at PKSP.

From a claimant perspective, PKSP advises them on which authorities to approach to collect insurancerelated documents and performs inspections onsite to ensure that all information is thorough. An underwriter examining a survey or report will have all the required information to approve a claim, including evidentiary photos and full disclosure of when, where, how, and why products were damaged.

To gather the information, a PKSP surveyor meets the consignee to have a brief discussion, and obtain the relevant documents from both consignee and source.

It then proceeds to review goods for partial or complete damage and deliver a preliminary report to an underwriter for additional verification. While PKSP does not directly help a claimant receive insurance payouts, it ensures that all claim documents are valid and there is a higher chance for approval. To avoid total losses, it also helps clients to connect with local salvage buyers and assists in selling goods at reasonable prices.

Inspecting goods across various industry sectors, PKSP validates the condition of fresh and frozen foods as well as defense equipment such as war tanks and choppers, and everything in between. In the context of the food sector, it determines if products in transit were transported under appropriate circumstances and whether rotting is due to a malfunctioning freezer or human error. All PKSP personnel are well-trained in checking the quality of the goods. The company also deploys a range of technology tools to verify that stipulated conditions were maintained within a package at all times.

PKSP is a new company in the Asian maritime survey space led by a team of experienced professionals who have worked with many local and international underwriters. These relationships have been critical in enabling PKSP to push forward from strength to strength in helping underwriters and claimants receive the right information.

To ensure staff members are well qualified for a surveyor role, PKSP provides holistic training to educate them on the types of questions to ask a consignee to obtain information that is crucial for an underwriter. It also has a list of to-dos to maintain a line of quality that employees must apply during inspections. At the company level, Phoophat assesses an employee’s comprehension of a scenario and their capacity to pose or respond to pertinent inquiries. PKSP aims to provide clients with an international standard of maritime insurance surveys and deliver information that will serve an underwriter in performing their profession efficiently.
