A 25 Million strategy bet on Latin America fintechs has been made by Clocktower Technology Ventures.
FREMONT, CA: Fintech and the Latin American venture scene are both thriving. As a result, it's no surprise that an increasing number of global investors are investing in Latin American fintech startups. Clocktower Technology Ventures (CTV), the investing affiliate of Santa Monica, California-based macro investment firm Clocktower Group, is the most recent. Since its inception in 2015, Clocktower Technology Ventures has invested in 96 fintech companies across North America, Europe, and Latin America, with eight of those investments concentrated in Latin America. Flink, a neobank, commission-free trading platform that recently raised a 12 million dollars Series A round; Habi, a iBuyer and listing service; Kushki, a digital payments processor; and on top, an automated taxes, payroll, and onboarding service for employers, are among those investments.
CTV is now launching its first fund, which will invest solely in Latin American fintechs at the seed and Series A stages. The strategy's goal is to raise 25 million dollars and the majority of the vehicle's capacity has already been taken by existing investors and a few strategics. In the coming years, the firm intends to make approximately 40 investments from the new fund. CTV Partner Ben Savage stated that the affiliate's Latin American strategy is consistent with its approach to its flagship funds. Savage stated that they have led zero deals and have taken zero board seats across their investments. They intend to replicate this approach for Latin American strategy and understand that this is an unusual approach, but they aim to add more incremental value by such activities. Other activities refer to the firm's ability to connect founders and startups with other players in the financial services space, such as CIOs of globally significant investors, hedge fund managers thought leaders, and academics, which can be more beneficial than leading a round or taking a board seat.
