Gorfine, Schiller & Gardyn Announces Promotion of Three Directors, One Principal and One Manager

Owings Mills, MD  – Gorfine, Schiller & Gardyn, P.A. (GSG), a full-service certified public accounting firm, announced the promotion of three new Directors, one Principal and one Manager.

The promotions reflect the firm’s approach to cultivating talent through mentorships and team development. In addition, this round of promotions adds two female Directors to senior leadership.

GSG promoted the following executives:

• Laura Shuman, Director, Small Business: Shuman leads the firm’s small business department providing compilation, review and tax services to businesses, as well as support for their general business and financial needs.

• Melissa West, Director, Tax Services: West has deep experience in tax planning and preparation of tax returns for partnerships, individuals, and tax-exempt organizations. She specializes in charitable remainder trusts and not-for-profit organizations.

• Steve Kaplon, Director, Audit and Accounting Services: Kaplon provides a full spectrum of accounting and consulting services, including auditing and other attest services, preparation and analysis of financial statements, and tax planning and preparation of income tax returns. He also earned the Elijah Watt Sells Award for passing the CPA exam with one of the highest scores in the country.

• Vicki Hitchcock, Principal, Audit and Accounting Services: Hitchcock specializes in the areas of audits, reviews and compilations in various industries. She is a leader within the employee benefit plan team with expertise in limited scope and full scope audits.

• Mike Schiller, Manager, Audit and Accounting Services: Schiller specializes in providing forensic accounting and consulting services. He also works in the areas of audits, reviews, and compilations for not-for-profit organizations, small and medium-sized businesses and employee benefit plans.
